Computing leader - Mr Homer
Computing at Cradley covers 4 main areas: Publishing, Control, Data Handling and e-safety.
Each class looks at all 4 areas in detail and has units of work planned around each one. E-safety is taught within each unit so children gain an understanding of how important it can be and they ways in which they must stay safe online.
Year 1 - Publishing - children wiil use 'Revelation' (an art package) to learn how to draw/paint and manipulate simple effects. The will also us '2publish' to find out how text and graphics can be added together to produce a finished piece of work. They will learn to log on using a password independently and the importance of doing this.
Year 2 - Publishing - children will use textease and learn the basics of word processing. They will save, load and edit work and learn how to print. As a class they will send a piece of their work via email and learn the basics of email safety. The will learn about the type of language they should use and the digital identity they want to display.
Year 3 - Publishing - children will learn how to use 'Powerpoint' to present work. They will add text, pictures and sounds and learn ow to find pictures on the internet safely. They will also find out what they should do if they come across something they don't think is appropriate and look at some spoof websites to show them that not everything they read is true. They will also publish something on our school website and learn that once online it is available for everyone to see. They will discuss the implications of this with some fun games.
Year 4 - Publishing - children will develop simple web pages and learn about appropriate content using 'J2E'. They will use cameras to take pictures then up load them. They will learn to manipulate text and pictures for optimal effect. E-safety will focus on the content and learn about plagiarism and making sure they have permission before the upload comments or photos about other people.
Year 5 - Control - children will understand that computers control objects and begin to write simple instructions for a program to follow. They will use 'Primary Control Station' and find out how to design and write procedures.
Year 6 - Control - children will use 'Scratch' to further develop their understanding of control. They will predict the outcome of procedures and edit them to ensure they fulfil a brief.
