History in Year 3
The children will begin the year exploring the historical concepts of continuity and change through the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. They will delve into the tools used by people in these ages, their home life, belief systems and their eating habits. They will uncover significant advancements in each of these periods of time and look at how these may have affected further change in the future. Witnessing the advancements of our ancestors makes for some really spine-tingling moments!

During the spring, the children will explore the lives and achievements of many differing ancient civilisations (the Sumerians, the Shang Dynasty and the Indus Valley) culminating in a deeper study of the Ancient Egyptians. Through these peoples, children will utilise the historical concepts of similarity and difference and will use their knowledge from their previous unit to see if these peoples were typical of their time.

To finish their historical journey in Year 3, the children will learn about the Mayans. This is a fantastic culmination of all the knowledge they have acquired across the year as they can see how the Mayans were similar and different to other civilisations and Ages in general.
