History in Year 2

At the beginning of Year 2, children will study a range of different explorers and what they contributed to our understanding of the world. Within the unit, they will focus on the historical concepts of similarity and difference and significance. We pride ourselves in showcasing different explorers from different areas of society, meaning that children will be uncovering the significance of: Ibn Battuta, Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong, Captain Scott and Amelia Earheart.

In the spring term, the children will delve into the time period of the Stuarts. In this unit, students will study events in chronological order, focusing on the concepts of cause and consequence. This allows them draw conclusions as to why they happened and to make links between events during this period of time. They will explore: the Gunpowder Plot, the English Civil War, the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London.

During the summer, the children will investigate how their local area has impacted Britain and the wider world. In this unit, students will uncover what it was like to be a chain maker in Cradley and how this profession influenced the world, focusing on the concept of significance. This is a fantastic unit to allow the children to feel connected to their community and its heritage.
