British Values
At Cradley, promoting British Values sits at the heart of our school vision: “Believe, belong, be happy; every child, every chance, every day.” Guided by the expectations of the Department for Education and Ofsted, we are committed to nurturing pupils who are confident, respectful, and ready to play a positive role in society.
We actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance through our teaching, relationships, and daily school life. This means we also challenge attitudes or behaviours that do not reflect these values, always in a caring, supportive, and restorative way.
With our vision and Christian values guiding our approach, at Cradley we:
Through this approach, we aim to develop pupils who believe in themselves, respect others, feel a strong sense of belonging, and grow into happy, responsible, and compassionate citizens—ready for the next stage of their journey and for life in modern Britain.
-
Encourage democracy and participation by giving pupils a voice through class discussions, school council, and shared decision-making, helping them to feel that their views matter and that they truly belong.
-
Promote understanding of right and wrong by teaching clear expectations, fairness, and respect for rules, so children feel safe, secure, and confident in their choices.
-
Develop self-belief and confidence by nurturing each child’s strengths, celebrating effort, and encouraging resilience and perseverance.
-
Support personal responsibility and initiative by helping pupils reflect on their actions, make positive choices, and take pride in contributing to school life.
-
Encourage positive citizenship by involving children in community projects, charity work, and local links, helping them understand how they can make a difference.
-
Build understanding of public institutions and services through learning in subjects such as history, geography, and PSHE, broadening pupils’ awareness of life beyond school.
-
Celebrate diversity and culture by exploring different traditions, faiths, and backgrounds, fostering curiosity, tolerance, and harmony.
-
Promote respect for all through kind words, thoughtful actions, and strong relationships rooted in care and forgiveness.
PHSE and British Values
At Cradley, our PSHE curriculum plays a key role in promoting British Values by helping children understand and live out the principles of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. Through age-appropriate discussions, role play, and real-life examples, pupils learn how these values shape our society and how they can actively contribute
