In Autumn, Year 2 explore the art of Henri Rousseau, a French post-impressionist painter, known for  paintings of mythical animals. This links with their study of animals and habitats in Science. The children create observational drawings of animals and practise techniques to create different tones, including hatching and blending. The children also begin to work on a range of scales, mixing secondary colours, shades and tints. At the end of the unit, the children create a large scale jungle painting, featuring a mythical animal.
