Foundational Skills

What do we mean by foundational skills at Cradley CE?

Foundational skills are the essential knowledge, abilities and attitudes that children develop in the early years and Key Stage 1 which provide the building blocks for future learning, personal growth and success. They include not only academic skills such as reading, writing and mathematics, but also the wider skills children need to become confident, independent and resilient learners.

At Cradley CE, foundational skills are built through our vision of “Believe, belong, be happy; every child, every chance, every day”. We recognise that children learn best when they feel valued, secure and confident, and when they develop strong relationships with others.
