Information technology

Information Technology (IT) at Cradley is designed to teach children how to use technology safely, effectively, and creatively. It aims to transform our students from passive technology users into active creators of digital content, while ensuring they understand the digital world around them. IT specifically focuses on creating, organising, and manipulating digital content. The knowledge taught at Cradley covers both "knowing that" (facts about technology) and "knowing how" (practical skills).

Key Components of IT Knowledge at Cradley include:

  • Digital Content Creation & Manipulation: Children learn to use various tools to create and edit digital products, including:
    • Text: Using word processors (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs) to type, edit, and format.
    • Images & Audio: Taking, editing, and enhancing digital photos, videos, and sound recordings.
    • Presentations: Using software like PowerPoint to combine text and media.
    • Data Handling: Using spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) or databases to collect, analyse, and represent data, such as making charts and graphs.
  • Search Technologies: Children are taught to use search engines effectively to find information, evaluate the reliability of websites, and understand how search results are ranked.
  • Understanding IT in the World: Recognising that IT extends beyond school, including devices like traffic lights, barcode scanners, and smart appliances.
