Christingle 2024
We delight in sharing in the annual Christingle Celebration with all of our Key Stage 2 pupils making their own Christingles prior to a service led by Mother Victoria.
What is Christingle?
A Christingle is a special symbol used by Christians, especially at Christmas time, to help us remember the story of Jesus and what He means for the world. The word Christingle comes from a German word meaning “Christ’s light.”
What does it mean?
-
The orange stands for the world.
-
The red ribbon reminds us of God’s love and the sacrifice of Jesus.
-
The sweets or fruit show the good things God gives us in every season.
-
The candle is the most important part – it represents Jesus as the Light of the World, bringing hope into darkness.
Why is it significant?
Christingle is a simple but powerful way of sharing the Christian message. It helps children and adults remember that:
-
God’s love is for everyone, everywhere.
-
Jesus brings light, hope and joy.
-
We are called to shine that light to others through kindness, care and service.
Christingle services, often held in Advent, are also closely linked with the charity The Children’s Society, reminding us to support children and families in need.
