Science Overview

What Does Science Look like at Cradley?

At our school, we believe that Science is a vital part of understanding the world around us. Through a broad, engaging and practical curriculum, we inspire children to be curious, ask questions and develop a lifelong love of learning. Science provides opportunities for pupils to explore, investigate and discover, helping them to make sense of the natural and physical world while developing the knowledge and skills needed for the future.

From the Early Years through to Key Stage 2, children build their scientific understanding through hands-on experiences, enquiry-based learning and meaningful discussions. Pupils learn about biology, chemistry and physics through a carefully sequenced curriculum that develops knowledge progressively and encourages children to think and work like scientists. They are taught to observe closely, ask questions, make predictions, carry out investigations, gather evidence and draw conclusions based on their findings.

Our Science curriculum is closely linked to our school mission statement:

"Believe, Belong, Be Happy – Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day."

Believe

We encourage children to believe in their abilities as scientists. By fostering curiosity, resilience and independence, pupils develop the confidence to ask questions, test ideas and learn from mistakes. Children are supported to take risks in their thinking and understand that scientific discoveries often come from perseverance and exploration.

Belong

Science provides opportunities for collaboration, discussion and shared discovery. Children work together to investigate questions, solve problems and communicate their findings, developing respect for different viewpoints and a sense of belonging within our learning community.

Be Happy

We aim to make Science exciting, engaging and memorable. Practical investigations, outdoor learning experiences and real-world contexts help children develop enthusiasm and enjoyment in their learning, nurturing a positive attitude towards Science.

Every Child

We are committed to ensuring that all children can access and succeed in Science. High-quality teaching, appropriate support and inclusive learning experiences enable every pupil to develop scientific knowledge, skills and confidence regardless of their starting point.

Every Chance

Children are provided with a wide range of opportunities to explore Science beyond the classroom. Through enrichment activities, educational visits, visitors and cross-curricular links, pupils are encouraged to see the relevance and importance of Science in everyday life and future careers.

Every Day

Scientific thinking is embedded throughout school life. Children are encouraged to observe, question, investigate and explain the world around them in all areas of learning, helping them to develop the curiosity and critical thinking skills that underpin successful scientific enquiry.

Through our Science curriculum, we aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand an ever-changing world, while inspiring them to become inquisitive, reflective and responsible citizens of the future.
