Science

Science leader - Mrs Darby

Rationale

Science teaches an understanding of natural phenomena. It aims to stimulate a child's curiosity in finding out why things happen in the way that they do. It teaches methods of enquiry and investigation to stimulate creative thought. Children learn to ask scientific questions and begin to appreciate the way in which science will affect the future on a personal, national and global level.

Aims and objectives

At Cradley CofE Primary school we aim to make science interesting and enjoyable and encourage children in the process of self discovery. We aim to equip children with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to both understand and ask further questions of the world around them.

Our objectives in the teaching of science are for all our children:

  • to ask and answer scientific questions;
  • to plan and carry out scientific investigations, with the correct use of equipment (including computers);
  • to know about life processes;
  • to know about electricity, light, sound, and natural forces;
  • to know about a range of materials and their properties and understand how materials can be manipulated and changed in different ways;
  • to know about the nature of the solar system, including the earth;
  • to recognise the impact of Scientific advances on our local and global community;
  • to know how to evaluate evidence and present conclusions both clearly and accurately.
