This week at Cradley...

This week has been full of creativity, curiosity and hands-on learning across the school. Year 4 artists developed their sketching skills using charcoal and a range of pencils to draw impressive Greek temples, while Year 2 carefully observed and drew famous London buildings in art. In science, Year 1 were thrilled to receive a letter all the way from Antarctica, inspiring them to imagine life as polar explorers, and Year 3 became food detectives by exploring nutrition labels and weighing out the sugar found in different food groups. Year 5 showed real passion and purpose by staging a protest against animal cruelty as a powerful stimulus for their English writing, and Year 6 impressed us with their focus and resilience as they tackled some tricky yoga balance flows and poses. Meanwhile, in Reception, after reading The Little Red Hen, children practised their sieving, mixing and kneading skills to make their own bread – which they very much enjoyed eating at snack time this week!

Collective Worship

In this week's collective worship, we found out about the Ark of the Covenant, a sacred, gold-plated wooden chest which contained the stone tablets in which the 10 commandments were stored by the Israelites.

When it came to the designated time for the Israelites, led by Joshua, to enter the promised land, the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant led the way to the River Jordan.  The river was fast flowing and deep and the priests were told by God to step into the river first and then it miraculously stopped flowing to allow the people to cross over.

In our lives, we have to take many 'first steps' into unknown situations and do things that we may be nervous or worried about.  We considered the following suggestions to help us take a first step:

?Take the first step?
Remember God is with you?

Understand you don't need all the answers?
Stay brave and steady?
Thank God for guiding you

Only after stepping into the river did the water stop flowing.  Similarly in our own lives, only after stepping out into new situations, challenges, are we able to experience the blessings that may come our way.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for always being with us.

Sometimes new things feel scary.
Help us to trust You and be brave enough to take the next step.

When we are unsure, remind us that You go before us and will never leave us.

Help us to listen, try our best, and move forward with happy hearts.

Amen
