This week at Cradley...

It has been another exciting and engaging week of learning across the school. In Year 5, pupils have stepped into the role of game designers in computing, using their creativity and problem-solving skills brilliantly. Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed exploring volcanoes and learning about the eruption of Vesuvius, bringing history and geography to life. Year 2 impressed everyone with their cooking skills while making delicious cheese twists, while Reception have been fascinated by discovering different life cycles and how living things grow and change. In Year 6, pupils watched the thought-provoking English film Alma and produced some wonderfully suspense-filled writing inspired by it. Meanwhile, Year 3 had great fun learning how to say different ice cream flavours in French – a lesson that certainly sounded very tasty! Year 1 have been busy writing non-chronological reports about our great British weather.

Congratulations to...

We are thrilled to share that Mrs Brailsford has been appointed as the new headteacher of Brandhall Primary School. This is a wonderful achievement and a reflection of her dedication, care and commitment to making a difference for children and families. We are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and know that she will bring vision and enthusiasm to her new role. We wish her every success as she begins this exciting new chapter in September.

This week we have successfully appointed a new class teacher who will be joining the Cradley staff team from September.

Special mentions this week;

We bid a fond farewell and thanks to Marcus, our swimming teacher, who has become part of our Cradley family over the last half-term.  The pupils have loved his lessons, and it has been fantastic to see him joining in with their games of football at lunchtime.

Thanks to Mrs Collins for leading Cradley's first ever science fair. We had over 30 projects submitted and yesterday, the hall was a buzz with children telling other pupils and staff all about their exciting learning.  These pupils are the scientists of the future!

Collective Worship

This week in collective worship, we explored the dramatic transformation of Saul to Paul on the road to Damascus. Through discussion and reflection, we thought about how people can sometimes be unfairly labelled by their mistakes or behaviour, and how change is always possible. Children considered how negative perceptions can affect the way people are treated and reflected on the importance of respect, forgiveness and seeing the best in others. We were reminded that Christians believe God sees every person with love, hope and potential, even when others may only see past mistakes. Pupils reflected thoughtfully on everyday situations where change and kindness matter — managing anger, including others, showing respect and choosing forgiveness.

Family reflections and actions:

  • Talk together about a time when someone surprised you by changing for the better.
  • Discuss why it is important not to judge people only by past mistakes.
  • Encourage children to think about how they can show kindness, respect and forgiveness at home and in school.
  • Ask: Is there someone we need to see differently or encourage more positively?
  • Reflect together on: Who helps us become the best version of ourselves?

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you that people can change.
Help us to treat others with respect, to forgive wisely, and to see people with kindness and hope.
Help us to become the best version of ourselves.

Amen.
