This week at Cradley...

Year 6 have impressed all of our staff with their resilience and perseverance through this week's SATs tests.  A massive well done to each of them.  They have ended their hardworking week with forest school, a pool party and McDonalds!

Year 5 have been applying their super oracy skills in a historical debate about who should have been King following the death of Edward III in 1066.

Year 4 made their own panpipes to explore pitch and string telephones to understand how sound travels over time.

In Year 3 the pupils have been designing and creating 3D Egyptian pyramids in DT.

Year 2 had a super visit to St Peter's church where Mother Victoria led them through activities to understand the meaning of Pentecost.

In Year 1 the pupils have been using a wax resist technique to make beautiful African sunsets (see below).

While in Reception, pupils have been learning how to safely and carefully handle the chicks and have enjoyed welcoming their parents to take part in that after school too.

Collective Worship

This week’s collective worship explored the story in the Bible of the man healed at the Beautiful Gate, where Peter and John stopped to truly notice a man who had been excluded and overlooked because he could not walk. Rather than ignoring him or simply giving money, they offered dignity, kindness, hope and belonging through God’s power, changing his life completely.

We reflected on how people today can still feel left out because they are new, different, struggling or unnoticed, and how figures such as Oscar Romero showed courage by standing up for those treated unfairly. Children were encouraged to think about our school values of belonging, caring, courage and respect, and how small everyday actions — inviting someone to play, smiling, listening carefully or sitting with someone who is alone — can help others feel included and valued.

Reflection questions for families:

  • When have you felt truly noticed or included by someone?
  • Is there someone in our community, school or neighbourhood who may be feeling left out at the moment?
  • What small act of kindness could your family show this week to help someone feel they belong?
  • How can we encourage courage and respect when we see others being overlooked or treated unfairly?

Prayer

Dear God, whom we trust,

Thank you that you see every one of us.
Help us to notice those who feel left out.
Give us kind hearts to include others,
Courage to stand up for what is right,
And wisdom to make a difference in small ways every day.

Amen.
