This week at Cradley...

Our amazing pupils and staff have thrown themselves back into learning and embraced this week's swimming lessons too.

Reception have been on a spring walk and looked for signs of spring within our school grounds. In Year 1, the pupils began their new RE topic on Judaism and have been exploring the significance of Shabbat and how Jewish people live it out in their daily lives. Meanwhile, in Year 2, the pupils enjoyed learning about the Great Fire of London and how parts of the capital had to be rebuilt as a consequence.

In key stage 2, Year 3 received a visit from one of Dudley's Recycling Officers who shared with them about the value of recycling and the improvements that have happened locally in recent weeks. In Year 4 this week, the class have been recapping co-ordinates and have shown real resilience and perseverance when plotting and translating points.  Pupils in Year 5 have been investigating day and night around the world in Science while Year 6 have been delving back in time to find out about different inventions.

Collective Worship

In this week's collective worship, we considered the feelings of Jesus' followers following his death and resurrection.  While word was still spreading about his resurrection, there was sadness and confusion amongst many who believed in him.

Two men who loved Jesus were taking a 7 mile walk to Emmaus and a third man joined them.  They told him all about what had happened and their feelings about the situation.  When they arrived in Emmaus, the men invited the third man into their home to eat with them before proceeding on his journey.  As the third man broke the bread, it was as if they saw for the first time who he was - it was Jesus!  He had been with them all through their journey and they had been so distracted that they hadn't noticed.

We thought about how we can all sometimes get so focused on our own lives, worries, with distractions that we are not able to notice the presence and work of God in our lives.  We can also stop noticing those around us who need our love and care because we become consumed.

In our school, this connects to how we care for one another:

  • We all want to belong

  • We all want to feel seen and supported

  • We all need others to walk alongside us

Reflections:

  • What is taking up your attention right now?
  • Who might you be able to support and walk alongside?
  • Is there a way in which we can show kindness to others?

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you that you walk with us through our lives, even when we don't realise it or feel it.

Help us to notice the people and look for joy around us, to show kindness and give help when it is needed.

May everyone in our school feel that they belong here.

Amen.

Swimming Lessons

Thank you for all of your support with this week's swimming launch.  The children have been tremendous in their attitudes and many have shown courage, perseverance and resilience in the safety talk where they had to pass a ladder test and then also in their first lessons.  It has been such a pleasure to see the smiles on so many faces!

Thanks to Mr Lowe for all of the exploring, planning and coordination that has gone into making this happen.

Just a reminder to make sure that your child has suitable footwear to walk to and from the marquee.  If they wear their school shoes or trainers, these will end up soggy and uncomfortable for the rest of the day.

We are delighted to have been able to provide this opportunity for all of our pupils but it has come at greater cost to the school than our previous swimming offer.  Therefore, in the coming weeks, families will be asked to make a voluntary contribution towards these costs where they are willing and able to do so.
