This week at Cradley...

It has been another busy and joyful week of learning across the school. In Year 4, pupils have been crafting wonderfully persuasive hotel adverts, using powerful rhetorical questions to tempt their readers into booking a stay at their very own “luxurious” destinations. Year 1 have been inspired by learning about the remarkable life of Helen Keller, reflecting thoughtfully on the values she showed and how these link to our Cradley values. Year 5 enjoyed a brilliant and very competitive game of cricket, with a nail-biting final score of 49–45! In Year 3, pupils have had great fun writing their own creative versions of The Hare and the Tortoise, while Year 2 have been equally imaginative with their own retellings of Little Evie in the Wild Wood. Reception had a lovely afternoon welcoming parents to a creative Inspire workshop and have also been sharing thoughtful conversations about the real-life superheroes in their own families. Meanwhile, Year 6 have been putting their scientific thinking to the test by designing experiments to investigate which types of exercise raise our pulse the most, and why. What a fantastic week of curiosity, creativity and collaboration!

Collective Worship - Sharing Meals Together

Sharing a meal with others can be a special time. Around a table we often talk, listen, laugh and share the events of the day. These small moments can help us feel closer to one another and build a strong sense of community.

In collective worship this week, children heard the story of Jesus sharing a special meal, known as 'The Last Supper' with his disciples from the Gospel of Mark (14:12–31). This meal took place during Passover, and it is remembered by Christians today through Holy Communion, where bread and wine are used as symbols to remember Jesus and his love and sacrifice.

  • When do you most enjoy eating together as a family?

  • What are some of the best conversations you have had around the table?

  • How can we make sure everyone feels listened to and included during family time?

Sometimes the simplest moments — sharing food, conversation and kindness — help us grow closer together.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for the love Jesus showed to his friends.
Help us to value and treasure the special times we share with those we love.

Teach us to show care and forgiveness to others, just as Jesus did.
Give us the courage to do what is right, day after day.

Amen

Comic Relief - Friday 20th March

Comic Relief will be on Friday 20th March so we welcome children to come dressed up in red. As the theme is 'Take Yourself funny for Money', we would invite children to bring in a joke to share with the class.  We may even share some of the best jokes in next week's newsletter!

Please help us reach our £250 fundraising target by donating via the link below:

Mini Market Fundraising

This week we welcomed Jay from Birmingham Children's Hospital who shared with the whole school the impact of fundraising for their charity.  It was fascinating to hear how funds raised through the charity not only provide life-saving equipment but features such as an indoor play area and bespoke cinema to improve the experiences of those poorly children who have to remain in hospital for extended periods.  last year, £250 was raised through the children's efforts. Last year's mini market organisers presented Jay with a cheque for £250 from Cradley CE.

This year, children (and parents) have surpassed yourselves by raising...

£580!

Pupils are still in the process of deciding how they would like to use those funds.
