This week at Cradley...

It’s been a joy to see our vision “Believe, belong, be happy; every child, every chance, every day” coming to life across school this week. Year 6 have truly believed in themselves, producing thoughtful and impressive self-portraits in art, while our Reception children have delighted in retelling The Three Little Pigs, showing creativity and perseverance as they designed and built houses from different materials. Year 5 worked collaboratively to create and test parachutes, learning from one another as they explored air resistance, and Year 3 showed real pride and curiosity in their learning through super information texts about the Ancient Egyptians and Sumerians.

Year 1 demonstrated care for our world by upcycling materials to create beautiful under-the-sea collages, and Year 4 impressed us all with their confident, well-structured newspaper reports. Meanwhile, Year 2 embraced belonging and joy on their imaginary trip to London, complete with a picnic in Hyde Park. A wonderful example of our children learning, growing and thriving together.

A special mention for two of our Year 6 pupils who truly showed responsibility in exercising their Cradley values this week by bringing something urgently to the attention of staff which meant that our wider community could be kept safe.  Jasper and Thomas, we are very proud of you!

All of the team at Cradley CE wish our families a restful half-term. Enjoy making memories together. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday 23rd February.

Collective Worship

Joshua's Final Message

When Joshua was very old, he gathered all the people together. He reminded them of everything God had done for them – how God had helped them, protected them and kept His promises.

Joshua told them to be strong and brave, to follow God’s ways, and to be kind and fair to one another. He warned them not to forget God or copy unkind behaviour from other people.

He said, “Choose today who you will serve. As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

The people promised to follow God and live in the right way. They agreed to remember His love and care and to stay faithful.

Joshua reminded them that their choices mattered, and that loving God and loving others would help their community stay strong.

We thought about how we make choices, rooted in belonging, and what 'good choices' look like in our school, community and families:

  • Choosing kindness with our words and actions

  • Including others so no one feels left out

  • Being fair and taking turns

  • Listening and showing respect

  • Helping others and asking for help when needed

  • Owning our mistakes and trying again

Please enjoy sharing together in the song 'Strong and Courageous' which has helped us to reinforce our learning about Joshua this half term.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for guiding us in the choices we make.

Help us to choose kindness when it is hard, respect when we are frustrated,  and courage when we feel unsure.

May our words and actions show love and care for others, so that our school continues to be a place where everyone belongs.

Amen

Online Safety Day - Tuesday 10th February

This week, classes have been part of e-safety workshops in school to raise awareness about the correct way to keep themselves safe.

You could continue to explore this at home with your child using the following links:

Responsible Parenting Online

Parental controls on mobile phones are important tools that help parents keep their children safe online by limiting exposure to inappropriate content, managing how long and when devices can be used, and controlling what apps and websites can be accessed. They are not an invasion of privacy when used responsibly — rather, they’re a way for parents to fulfil their responsibility to protect their children from harmful material, digital predators, and unsafe online behaviours in a world where kids often have constant access to the internet and social apps. Parental controls work alongside open communication and teaching children good digital habits to create a safer online environment.

  • Age 13+ Requirements: Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Snapchat generally set 13 as the minimum age for creating accounts.
  • While 13 is standard, some services or features may be designed for older users.
  • Parental Guidance: Despite the 13+ rule, many experts recommend assessing a child's maturity, as well as their ability to handle pressure or negative experiences, rather than just their age.

Parents are advised to check the specific, updated age restrictions on platforms and discuss online safety, potential risks, and appropriate usage with their children, rather than relying solely on the 13+ restriction.

Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health week and we have been focusing on building resilience.  In worship, the children learnt what it means to 'bounce back' when things feel tricky and why it's important to keep trying, even if something doesn't work the first time.  We explored helpful strategies such as breaking big tasks down into smaller steps, having a Plan B and turning 'I can't' into 'I can'.  The children have had thoughtful discussions and have been practising these positive mindset skills in their learning throughout the week.

In addition, Year 5 and 6 were visited by our Phase Trust colleagues who delivered workshops which focused on this year's theme: 'This is my Place' which tied in beautifully with our school value of belonging.
