This week at Cradley...

Reception have been talking all about their families and have loved creating their own colourful family portraits. It has been wonderful to hear them sharing special stories about the people who are important to them.

Year 1 have worked incredibly hard this week, writing their own independent sentences about Farmer Duck. We have been so impressed with their growing confidence as writers!

Year 2 have been exploring the world around them in Geography, learning how to use a compass to find North, East, South and West. They have enjoyed putting their new skills into practice!

Year 3 have been busy developing their Maths skills and have worked hard to master the column method for adding two-digit numbers. There has been some fantastic perseverance!

Year 4 had a wonderful time on their trip to Severn Valley. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn, explore and make special memories together.

Year 5 have been bringing lots of energy and enthusiasm to their musical learning, dancing around the room and singing their Ghost Parade song. We’re sure there are some budding performers among them!

Year 6 have been busy investigating electricity in Science, working hard to understand how voltage can affect the performance of a circuit. They have shown great curiosity and determination in their learning.

A huge well done to all of our children for another brilliant week. We are so proud of the enthusiasm, effort and resilience they continue to show every day! 🌟

Collective Worship – What Is Your Giant?

This week in Collective Worship, we explored the story of David and Goliath and thought about the challenges that can sometimes feel like “giants” in our own lives.

We reflected on how David showed courage, trust, responsibility and resilience, despite feeling small and facing something that seemed much bigger than him. We talked about how our own “giants” might be worries, difficult tasks, friendship problems, trying something new, or standing up for what is right.

The story also helped us reflect on our school vision: Believe, Belong, Be Happy. We considered how we can believe in ourselves and recognise our own strengths, help everyone to feel that they belong, and find happiness in being ourselves.

The children were encouraged to choose one small, courageous action to take this week – perhaps having a go at something difficult, asking for help, standing up for someone who feels left out, or showing kindness to someone who is different.

Think about it at home

We would love families to continue the conversation at home. You could ask your child:

  • What is your “giant” at the moment – something that feels difficult or challenging?
  • What helps you to feel brave when something seems difficult?
  • What is something you are proud of having a go at?
  • How can we help someone else to feel that they belong?

You might also share a time when you faced something that felt difficult and found the courage to keep going.

Our message was simple: we may all face challenges, but we do not have to face them alone. With courage, faith and support from others, we can take that first step.

Believe, belong, be happy – every child, every chance, every day.

The Amazing Teaching Assistant

Today we celebrate our TAs,
And all the things they do,
The jobs they have are quite a lot —
If only you all knew!

They help us when our work feels hard,
They listen, care and guide,
They find the child who's feeling lost
And quietly stay beside.

They sharpen pencils, find lost coats,
They tie a thousand shoes,
They somehow know who's had a wobble
And exactly what to do!

They read, they write, they count and spell,
They encourage, praise and cheer,
They help us find our confidence
When something isn't clear.

They wipe away the worried tears,
They celebrate success,
They notice when we're not ourselves
And help us feel our best.

They play at lunchtime, solve disputes,
They help us all belong,
They know that sometimes being kind
Can make a person strong.

They don't just help us with our work —
They help us believe,
They help us know that we belong,
And help us to achieve.

So, on this special National TA Day,
There's one thing we want to say:

Thank you for all that you give to us,
Not just today — but every day!

For every smile and word of hope,
For patience, care and cheer,
For helping every child to know
“I'm valued, I belong, I'm here.”

And perhaps the greatest gift you give
Is something we can't see:

You help each child discover
“I can be the best of me!”

So let's give our brilliant TAs
A great big cheer today…

Hip hip hooray for our amazing TAs —
You make Cradley a better place every day!

We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Mrs Shackleton, who will be leaving us on Friday 2nd October.

Mrs Shackleton has been a wonderful member of our school team, supporting children across KS2 and making a real difference to the children she works with. She has also played a much-loved role in running our Nurture Club, Soft Start mornings and Lunch Club, providing children with a welcoming, caring and supportive space throughout the school day.

We would like to thank Mrs Shackleton for all her hard work and the care she has shown to our children. We wish her every happiness and success for the future and hope she enjoys her next adventure!

Thank you for everything, Mrs Shackleton!
